Privacy notice

Who is responsible for your information?
The Last Zoo Crew is operated by Jack Old, who is responsible for the personal information collected for this website.
Contact: georgeyoungwrites@gmail.com.
Book availability updates
When you register interest, we collect your email address and record your signup and consent in Shopify. We use this to send the availability notification for The Day the Zoo Stood Still. Registration does not place an order or reserve a copy, and no payment is taken.
We rely on your consent for this email. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful use. Registering does not sign you up for unrelated news or offers.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any details you choose to include. We use this information to answer your enquiry and keep a record where needed to resolve it. Our legitimate interest is responding to people who contact us and managing those enquiries. Messages are handled through our Gmail mailbox.
Shopify, cookies and technical information
Shopify hosts this website and processes information needed to operate and protect it, including device and browser details, IP addresses and activity on the site. Essential cookies support security and site functions. Where consent is required, use the cookie banner to accept or reject optional cookies.
Shopify Network Intelligence is currently enabled. Shopify can combine information from this store with data from other merchants and Shopify interactions to provide enhanced services, including personalisation, analytics and advertising features. Shopify is responsible for some of this processing in its own right. Your applicable cookie and privacy choices affect how this information is used.
Read Shopify’s Consumer Privacy Policy for its purposes, rights and choices, including its privacy portal. Our use of essential technical data supports our legitimate interest in running a secure website; optional tracking uses consent where required.
Who receives information and where
Shopify and its service providers process website and signup information. Google processes emails sent to our Gmail mailbox. We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to establish or protect legal rights.
These providers operate internationally, so processing can take place outside the UK. Shopify describes its safeguards in its Data Processing Addendum. Google explains its processing and transfer safeguards in the Google Privacy Policy.
How long information is kept
We keep availability-signup information while it is needed to manage the requested notification, subject to your right to withdraw consent. Enquiries are kept while needed to respond and resolve any follow-up. We may keep limited consent, unsubscribe or other records where needed to respect your choices, meet legal obligations or deal with a dispute.
Retention depends on the purpose and any legal requirements, rather than keeping all information indefinitely. Shopify and Google also apply their own retention arrangements to information they process. You can contact us to ask about the information held about you.
Games and children
The Zoo Adventure saves progress in local storage in your browser. It does not require an account, and the game does not upload that saved progress to a cloud profile. Clearing your browser’s site data removes the local save. Normal Shopify hosting and technical processing still applies when visiting game pages.
The books and games are for families. The email signup and contact route are intended for adults. Parents and carers should use their own contact details and avoid sending personal information about children. Please contact us if a child has submitted information that should be removed.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct or erase your information, restrict its use, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive a portable copy. You can also withdraw consent to availability emails. Send requests to georgeyoungwrites@gmail.com; we may need to check your identity.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You can contact us first if you would like us to help resolve a concern.
Links and changes
Conservation and other external links take you to independently operated websites with their own privacy notices. This notice covers the current website and interest-registration service. We will review it when the service changes, including before enabling book purchases, and show the updated date here.
